Businesses in Madrid start vaccinating to help overcome the pandemic
Within the public-private partnership framework of the Sumamos Plan, the first three large vaccination centres (Acciona, El Corte Inglés and Grupo Santander) have been approved and will have the capacity to administer between 25,000-30,000 vaccines per week. More company vaccination centres will be added in the coming weeks.
These vaccination centres will be open at least during the months of July and August and will serve both company employees and the general public.
Vaccination will begin in three centres approved by the Community of Madrid (Acciona, El Corte Inglés and Grupo Santander) and new vaccination sites are expected to be added in the coming days. These three large vaccination centres will have the capacity to administer between 25,000-30,000 vaccines a week. In other words, they will be able to inoculate some 250,000 vaccines in the two summer months.
Acciona will vaccinate at its headquarters at Avenida de Europa, 18, in the Parque Empresarial La Moraleja, in Alcobendas. El Corte Inglés, in turn, will vaccinate at its Arapiles centre at Calle de Arapiles, 8, in Madrid, and the Santander Group at its Ciudad Financiera, located on Avenida de Cantabria, in Boadilla del Monte.
These company centres will become part of the circuit of vaccination centres in the Community of Madrid and will be included in the appointment app.
Vaccination as part of the Sumamos Plan
The Community of Madrid is not the only one that has involved companies in its vaccination campaign. In fact, the Region of Valencia began inoculating at 18 company centres on 7 June, with the participation of more than 50 companies with nearly 35,000 workers.
Meanwhile, the Sumamos Plan in Andalusia has organised a total of 16 vaccination campaigns in companies. Around 160 companies and SMEs have participated in these campaigns. As a result of this initiative, 10,000 workers have been vaccinated, including those of the first football clubs in Spain to participate in the Sumamos Plan: Real Betis Balompié and Sevilla Club de Fútbol. In addition, a dozen new vaccination centres are scheduled to open in this community to reach an additional 2,000 workers in the coming days.
On the other hand, thanks to the agreement that the CEOE Foundation reached with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration and AMAT, the infrastructure of private mutual insurance companies was made available to the regional governments to speed up immunisation among workers. Thus, communities such as Catalonia are already using these resources for vaccination and several Autonomous Regions have requested to join, as is the case of Cantabria and Andalusia.
Testing centres
In recent months, the Sumamos Plan has provided support for the prevention of the pandemic through testing centres. In total, within the framework of the Plan, more than 70 companies have carried out recurrent screening of their employees and 18 temporary testing centres have been opened, conducting more than 600,000 tests in the different Autonomous Regions where the Plan is in force.
It is worth highlighting the opening on June 24 of a new testing centre in the Community of Madrid, in the Plaza de Castilla interchange, which carries out free antigenic tests for any citizen from Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 21.00 hours.
