The #CEOPorLaDiversidad (#CEOPforDiversity) Alliance welcomes Vicente del Bosque to move forward in inclusion and inclusive leadership
The #CEOPorLaDiversidad Alliance, pioneer in Europe and promoted by the Adecco Foundation and the CEOE Foundation, met this morning at the Club Financiero Génova in Madrid with the aim of further consolidating the key principles and pillars in the field of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (De&I) and moving towards more inclusive, competitive and resilient social and business environments.
The event brought together 23 of the 82 CEOs that currently make up the Alliance, representing the following companies: Accenture, Airbus, Alstom Transporte, Atlantic Copper, Baker & McKenzie, Becton Dickinson, Cbre, Exolum, Global Omnium, Grupo Adecco, Grupo Juste, Iveco, Lafargeholcim España, Maersk Spain, Mave Trigo Group, Navantia, Orange, Saint-Gobain, Siemens España, Uría Menéndez, Verallia, Wordline Iberia and Zurich Spain.
The conference was attended by Enrique Sánchez and Francisco Mesonero, President and CEO of the Adecco Foundation, respectively, and Fátima Báñez, President of the CEOE Foundation.
Enrique Sánchez, President of the Adecco Foundation, welcomed the attendees and commented that: “Thanks to the involvement of the Alliance’s member companies, we are creating a framework for action that is already a benchmark in Spain for the consolidation of more inclusive and competitive business models at a global level. Today we want to go a step further and, for this, we are fortunate to be joined by Vicente del Bosque, a leading figure not only in the sports world, but also in the social sphere. His experience leading teams can provide us with valuable conclusions that can be extrapolated to the business world, which will help us to continue advancing in a leadership that embraces individual differences as an indisputable driver of growth and wealth for any organisation”.
“Convincing without imposing”: the keys to leadership according to Vicente del Bosque
This meeting of the #CEOPorLaDiversidad Alliance was attended by Vicente del Bosque, former national football coach, 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 winner with Spain and winner of two Champions League titles with Real Madrid.
In addition to his sporting career, Vicente del Bosque has become a reference in the social sphere. In recent years, he has received a number of awards for his social work and humanitarian commitments from different organisations such as the Mapfre Foundation and the Lumière Foundation. In addition, he recently received the annual recognition for Social Commitment, within the framework of the thirteenth edition of the Race for Capacities, an annual event organised by the Adecco Foundation and more than fifty committed companies.
Del Bosque, who is also the father of a young man with Down syndrome, thanked the companies in the Alliance for their involvement in building more diverse and inclusive environments that include all people and know how to get the best out of each one of them. He also shared with the CEOs the lessons and values he learned during his career, highlighting that a team that is committed, cohesive and aligned with corporate values is the key to the success of any business project.
The former national team coach drew a parallel between the business world and the world of sport, alluding to the dressing room. “If we have a healthy dressing room, a healthy working environment, we are on the road to success. To achieve this, we must build a business strategy that is committed to inclusive leadership. Before being the boss, you have to be a good person and build trust with your teams. To do this, you must convince rather than impose“, he stressed.
KPIs in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: the starting point for excellence
After Vicente del Bosque’s talk, Pablo García, Director of Communication and Marketing of the Adecco Foundation, took the floor to present the KPI tool on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. It is designed on the basis of the involvement of the 82 Alliance member companies, and its goal is to measure the progress and impact of the De&I strategies, as well as to serve as a fundamental resource for reporting and decision making.
“This resource was created through the collective intelligence of the 82 companies in the Alliance and is the result of teamwork and knowledge sharing with experts from academia and social anthropology. These indicators will allow us to determine the level of maturity of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategies and establish tangible, realistic objectives tailored to the needs of each company. In short, this tool is the starting point to learn about the current state of the De&I policies and move towards more mature phases that lead to business excellence” – García explained.
The KPI tool that the Adecco Foundation is working on focuses on strategic indicators that will enable the company to assess the strategy being implemented through four blocks of content: diversity indicator, maturity of the diversity strategy, inclusion and belonging, and reporting indicators.
The event was closed by Fátima Báñez, president of the CEOE Foundation, who stressed that: “the real asset, the real tool for the competitiveness of companies and of Spanish society as a whole lies with its people. We must take care of our best asset, which is talent, human resources, and we must do so by seeking excellence, which can only be found in diversity in the broadest sense”. Fátima Báñez condensed the values of the #CEOPorLaDiversdiad alliance into “three words: commitment, humbleness and generosity” to which she added “communication from the company’s management”, while she encouraged “adding synergies and new alliances throughout the Spanish productive fabric, because what is at stake is a truly better future for companies, but also for the Spanish society”.
