Encouraged by the CEOE Foundation, CEPSA joins the ‘Sustainable Digitalization’ project with a donation of 1,500 computer devices
This is the largest donation of electronic devices in the company's history.
CEPSA joined that ‘Sustainable Digitalization’ project in an act that took place at La Merced Campus of the University of Huelva. This project is promoted by the CEOE Foundation together with Ambilamp, Ecoasimelec, Ecofimática, Ecolum, Ecolec, Eco-raee’s, Ecotic and ERP España, with the collaboration of Fundación SEUR, and its goal is to collect computer devices and donate them to social entities that work with groups of people at risk of exclusion. This time, the initiative is supported by the Andalusian Confederation of Entrepreneurs (CEA) and the Huelva Federation of Entrepreneurs (FOE).
The event was attended by the President of the CEOE, Fátima Báñez, and CEPSA’s Director of IT Systems, Susana Zúmel, among others. In total, the energy company will donate 1,500 computers and electronic devices from the company’s offices in Madrid (950 computers), Campo de Gibraltar (200), Huelva (150) and Tenerife (150).
The devices from its facilities in Huelva will be distributed among nine social entities in the province: IES Pintor Pedro Gómez de Huelva; IES Carabelas de Palos de la Frontera; IES Clara Campoamor; AsociaciónEstuario; Centro de Adultos CEPER Aljibe; Colegio PúblicoAderán III; Fundación Don Bosco; APRODIMAX and Hermandad de Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo.
During the ceremony, Fátima Báñez welcomed CEPSA to the project and thanked the company for “its generous contribution”, while stressing that “‘Sustainable Digitalization is an alliance for the people. Our results are very positive, it is a project that works and brings technology closer to society, especially among the most vulnerable groups. We are enabling a social impact and a greener economy”.
In the words of Susana Zúmel, by implementing this campaign, Fundación CEOE and Cepsa contribute not only to reducing the digital divide, but also to promoting universal access to technology. In addition, they foster efficiency and sustainability to support the goals of non-profit organizations that will be able to use these devices for their projects with different vulnerable groups, and, of course, to protectthe environment by reducing waste generation. In other words, we are undoubtedly aligned with the objectives of our Positive Motion strategy”.
Specifically, CEPSA, through its Information Systems area, will donate 1,500 laptops, 25 tablets and 40 monitors to different non-profit organizations committed to digital inclusion and IT accessibility, in what is the largest donation of electronic devices in the history of the company.
In this way, the CEOE Foundation, Cepsa and the Cepsa Foundation support non-profit organizations, providing them with the necessary technology to operate in the best possible way and promoting the digital maturity of the entire social ecosystem. The beneficiary entities of this initiative will be educational and training centres for minors or people at risk of exclusion, and homes for the elderly, among others.
Sustainable Digitization’ campaign
The ‘Sustainable Digitization’ campaign, which has been running for two editions, has so far managed to recover more than 6,542 devices and computer components, thanks to the voluntary donations of more than 100 companies and self-employed individuals from all over Spain. Of these, 40% could be reused, or 47% if we focus only on CPUs, monitors and laptops. On the other hand, those devices and components that could not be reused have been recycled in order to recover some of their useful materials.
These refurbished devices are distributed thanks to the collaboration of the SEUR Foundation through 60 collaborating NGOs. These donations have provided access to technology to more than 20,000 people all over Spain through different programs, contributing significantly to reduce the digital divide.
The collection of equipment that ‘Sustainable Digitalization’ promotes not only has a positive social impact, it also brings significant benefits for the environment: the reuse and recycling of devices has meant savings of more than 204,000 kilograms of CO2 emissions, an important step in terms of reducing emissions that contribute to global warming.
