Joint commitment to promote vocational training B.G.R.

The Advisor to the regional Ministry of Economy, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, highlights the degree of employability for people with this type of training, while the former Minister of Employment, Fátima Báñez, advocates for a social pact in Spain in favour of this education path.

Under the title “Vocational Training 5.0. The VET for the new economy”, this morning, the association of Burgos’ subsidized schools that offer vocational training held a conference to discuss the future of this type of education in a context of widespread digitization. The Advisor to the regional Ministry of Economy and Finance, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, opened the session, highlighting in his speech various aspects such as the degree of employability of students, which stands at 86% in Castilla y León, as well as the fact that most program graduates stay in the province in which they have studied these courses.

Likewise, he announced the commitment of the regional administration to continue the path of growth, both in terms of students and new courses. In this sense, he specified that, at present, the number of enrolled students stands at 44,000 in 85 newly established study courses, and that these will increase by 8,000 before the end of this term of office, while the study courses will reach 130.

The former Minister of Employment and President of the CEOE Foundation, Fátima Báñez, was a speaker at the conference, where she addressed VET in companies in the 21st century. Earlier, in statements to the media, she advocated for a great social pact to “strongly promote” this type of education, and that the administrations, the business world, trade unions and the educational community should all be involved.

Báñez highlighted the functioning of Vocational Training in Castilla y León, a Community that she considered a benchmark for the whole of Spain and she recalled that it was in 2012, during the Government of Mariano Rajoy, when the Dual FP was implemented. She also stressed the importance of combining education in the classroom and onsite at the companies.

The day also included the participation of the president of Grupo AC Hoteles by Marriot, Antonio Catalán, who addressed the new productive model.
