CEOE joins the IDIS Foundation’s ‘Manifesto for Better Healthcare’ to address the present and future challenges of the healthcare system

The Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE) has joined the 'Manifesto for Better Healthcare' of the Institute for the Development and Integration of Healthcare (IDIS Foundation), which sets out a decalogue of principles to achieve a viable and sustainable healthcare system and aims to urge the administrations to not delay the implementation of measures that "allow the healthcare system to adapt to the challenges it faces today and which must be resolved with the future in mind".

This manifesto has already been signed by more than a hundred healthcare companies and civil society organisations from different fields, such as the business world, professional associations, patients, and the pharmaceutical industry, among others.

The Decalogue was presented this Thursday at a telematic event attended by 15 of the signing parties, who held one minute of silence for the victims of the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the event, the secretary general of CEOE, José Alberto González, pointed out that “one of the fundamental lessons” of the pandemic “is that we must acknowledge the essential role that healthcare system plays in any society that aims to growth, progress and enable a comprehensive welfare state”.

Meanwhile, the president of the CEOE Foundation, Fátima Báñez, stated that “for companies, institutions and public administrations, the first priority is to preserve the health of citizens, working together, with commitment and dedication.”

The manifesto’s proposals include the importance of public-private collaboration; greater digitisation of processes; renewing the healthcare system’s technological park; promoting the participation of patient organisations; taking care of healthcare professionals at all times; and setting up an Information, Evaluation and Quality Agency with the collaboration of all the agents involved in order to measure and compare healthcare results and to be able to continue improving.

The meeting was hosted by the president of 50&50, Gloria Lomana, and was attended, on behalf of the IDIS Foundation, by its president, Juan Abarca; the director general, Marta Villanueva, and the secretary general, Ángel de Benito.

Other speakers included the Vice-Presidents of CEOE, Inés Juste and Lorenzo Amor; the Director General of the Alares Foundation, Mar Aguilera; the CEO of KPMG, Juan José Cano; the President of the General Council of Spanish Solicitors, Juan Carlos Estévez; the Director of the Ibercaja Foundation Campus, Ana María Farré; the Director General of Merck Spain, Miguel Fernández; the Secretary General of CEPYME, Pedro Fernández; the President of the Mutua Madrileña Foundation, Ignacio Garralda; the CEO of Mapfre, José Manuel Inchausti; the Director of ESADE Madrid, Mario Lara; the President of Ernst&Young, Federico Linares; the CEO of Engie España, Loreto Ordóñez; the President of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers, Victoria Ortega; and the Director General of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Inmaculada Riera.
